A couple of months ago, I began using products from Beyoncé’s haircare line Cécred and have continued to use of what’s remaining of the travel-size kits. This second installment of my brand review includes the Nourishing Hair Oil, the Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual, and the Reconstructing Treatment Mask.

Similar to her other cleansing and conditioning products, these three also maintain a premium quality ingredient list and rich scent. After using them for a few months, here are my thoughts on Cécred’s Fortifying Treatment Discovery Kit.

Nourishing Hair Oil

Cécred’s Nourishing Hair Oil is a rich blend of 13 oils, including black seed, castor, moringa, olive, sweet almond, and coconut. The innovative product is formulated to strengthen the hair’s lipid barrier using the brand’s patent-pending Bioactive Keratin Ferment, its star ingredient. The keratin “mimics keratin in human hair and delivers a deep protein infusion,” according to the brand.

I was surprised that this oil worked well for my fine hair; it absorbed easily without leaving a greasy residue—just a small amount is enough. On wash day or beforehand, I use the oil as a treatment for an hour or more, instead of as an everyday oil for shine. The oil is designed for dry hair, focusing on the mid-shaft to the ends, but it can also be blended with a conditioner while in the shower.

You can also use it before blow drying, ensuring a slick, smooth finish.

Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual

The Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Powder is a 2-step rinse treatment that strengthens hair while imparting softness and shine. The hair treatment begins with a fermented powder. When I opened the slim packet I was pleasantly surprised to discover the product was a lovely pale pink with a sweet, floral scent. The finely milled powder contains biotin, honey, rose, and aminos.

Once I got over the unique aroma and appearance of the powder, I emptied it into a bottle filled with 24 oz. of warm water and shook it until the product was completely dissolved. Hint: Mix vigurously or you’ll end up with clumps like when you mix lemonade with water. I poured it through my pre-shampooed strands from roots to ends and left it in for 5 minutes. According to the brand’s website, you’ll know it’s effective when it feels stiff. I didn’t notice the stiffness until later when I rinsed it off with water and started applying the Silk Rinse. The Rinse was luxuriously creamy and I would absolutely get it if it came out as a stand-alone product.

During this process, I used the same shampoo and styling lotion I have been using the last couple of washes to observe any new differences. The first thing that became immediately obvious was my curls clumped together more, which I loved. I hadn’t seen my curls do that since college, so it was a nice surprise, but I could’ve done without the shrinkage.

The only con I would note is how long the process took. I didn’t want to wait in the shower for five minutes after each rinse, so I stayed clothed with my head over the showerhead. My neck is still recovering…

Reconstructing Treatment Mask

This “hair repair in a jar” is nearly as effective as Olaplex, in my opinion, and is not considered a deep conditioner. I repeat…THIS IS NOT A DEEP CONDITIONER! The hair mask should be applied after shampooing and before conditioning. The product’s main ingredient, Bioactive Keratin Ferment, helps to strengthen, improve shine, and repair damage to distressed coils. Its soft, buttery texture and rich scent are an added plus!

Shortly after first use (leave it in for 20 minutes), I noticed my hair looked visibly thicker and stronger. However, I haven’t used it consistently enough to note its positive long-term effects.

Although this treatment mask has won many awards, including the 2024 Glamour Beauty & Wellness Award for “Best Luxury Hair Mask for Curls/Coils,” I think I will stick with Olaplex’s No. 3 Hair Perfector and CurlSmith’s Bond Curl Rehab Salve just because I can easily purchase them in-store vs. ordering online.

Since my first review of Cécred’s products, Queen B has introduced two new products to her haircare line: The Hydrating Conditioner, the Restoring Hair & Edge Drops, along with tools and accessories. They even sell a candle, in case you want the product’s signature fragrance notes of warm musk and sandalwood lasting long after a wash.
